Drog calls it a day with Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba has retired from international football.
The burly Chelsea striker served his country for 12 years, in which he scored 65 times in 104 appearances.
After captaining the Elephants at his third World Cup in Brazil, Drogba is now turning his attention to his club career as he begins a second spell at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to the BBC, the 36-year-old said: "I'm proud to have captained this team for eight years and to have contributed to putting my country on the world stage. It's with much sadness that I've decided to retire from international football.
"I can't convey enough thanks to the fans for all the love and support during these years. All my goals, all my caps, all our victories are for you.
"I owe much gratitude to my team-mates, the players with whom I've shared all these emotions and I wish them all much success for the future."
Drogba's last cap for the Ivory Coast was at the group stage of the World Cup in June, when he was substituted after 78 minutes as the Elephants crashed out of competition with a 1-2 defeat to Greece.
