Captain Jamie retains form
Yesterday's Kranji barrier trials
Last-start winner Captain Jamie is holding his form very well, judging by his trial victory at Kranji yesterday morning.
Ridden by jockey Barend Vorster, the Ricardo Le Grange-trained four-year-old Australian-bred showed plenty of oomph when asked in the final 200m of his 1,00m trial on the Polytrack.
Stablemate Elusive Emperor led from the get-go, followed by Yabadabadoo and David's Sling on the rails. Captain Jamie sat a handy fourth, two lengths off the leader.
Yabadabadoo raced up to eyeball Elusive Emperor at the 600m mark. Captain Jamie moved up in tandem and was third, only a length behind.
Vorster had his mount cover the leading duo on straightening. With a few niggles with 200m left to run, Captain Jamie responded stylishly and went on to beat Elusive Emperor by 13/4 lengths in a relatively good time of 1min 00.26sec.
An honest type, Captain Jamie went frustratingly close on many occasions after scoring his second win in September last year but had to settle for the minor placings, including a fast-closing third to Mr Clint in the $1 million Group 1 Singapore Guineas (1,600m) on May 26.
Then last time out on Aug 10, Captain Jamie deservingly broke the drought with a good win. With the monkey off his back, he can be followed again.
