Jackie Chan arrives in Beijing after son's drug arrest
Jackie Chan's publicist has revealed that the 60-year-old actor arrived in Beijing today (Aug 19) to deal with son's arrest in a drug bust.
According to South China Morning Post, 32-year-old Jaycee Chan was caught in possession of more than 100 grams of marijuana in his home in the Dongcheng district, Beijing.
The younger Chan reportedly told authorities that the boxes they found in his home "is old stuff, it’s one or two years old, it’s cannabis".
He has apologised to the public via his management who say they will "supervise him as he turns over a new leaf," AFP reported.
Kai Ko's father apologises
Taiwanese movie star Kai Ko Chen-tung, 23, who declared in 2011 "I don't use drugs" alongside You Are The Apple Of My Eye co-star Michelle Chen and director Giddens Ko, was also taken into custody during the bust last week.
Ko's parents and brother visited his son at the Beijing detention centre this morning.
Ko senior told reporters he "had not taught his son well" and apologised on behalf of the family, AFP added.
The China-based publication also revealed that "several celebrities have been detained on drug charges following a declaration in June by President Xi Jinping that illegal drugs should be wiped out and that offenders would be severely punished".
Footage released by the police and aired on China Central Television sees the actor weeping as he apologises for his crime.
Millions saw the video on Monday when the actor said "I have set the worst example...I have made a big mistake".
