'I thought TNP would report it'
Last month, he had read in The New Paper about an accident where metal sheets had slid off a truck and struck a car in Punggol.
So when Mr Ian Lim, 22, saw another accident involving a heavy vehicle on Clementi Road, he called TNP's hotline.
"It's quite shocking that accidents involving heavy vehicles seem to be quite common nowadays," he said.
Mr Lim was heading home on the bus last Wednesday afternoon when he passed by the accident scene.
The container at the back of a trailer truck had fallen off at Clementi Road and was leaning on the railing.
He said: "It was interesting, so I thought TNP would report it. And because recently there was (a) similar (incident), where metal sheets fell off a trailer truck."
In the incident, which happened last month, the metal sheets had slid off and hit a car at Punggol Road.
The driver of the car was unhurt.
Mr Lim, a student from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, has been a TNP reader for 10 years.
He said: "I buy a copy of TNP every day. I don't have a favourite section, I just read the whole paper."
FIRE
Another regular TNP reader, Mr Wong Chun Hong, 39, called the hotline about Saturday's fire in a Geylang dormitory which killed four workers.
Mr Wong, who reads the paper daily, was at the scene as he had been with friends at a nearby association at that time.
"I saw a worker come out of the building and he said there were more people trapped inside."
Mr Wong said he called TNP immediately as he remembered the hotline number.
"I have been reading TNP for many years and you guys are always very good with your reports," he said.
For their tip-offs, these readers will each receive a $100 Pizza Hut voucher.
