Major milestones in Mr Lee Kuan Yew's life
1923 - Born Sept 16 in his family’s two-storey bungalow at 92 Kampong Java Road.
1935 - Comes in first in Telok Kurau English School in an island-wide exam and wins a place in Raffles Institution
1940 - Tops Senior Cambridge exams in Singapore and Malaya and wins Anderson Scholarship to read English, economics and mathematics at Raffles College
1946 - Begins law school at the London School of Economics but moves to Cambridge University the next year, when his future wife Kwa Geok Choo joined him. They marry secretly on Dec 23, 1947, in Stratford-upon-Avon.
1950 - Called to the bar at the Middle Temple. Returns to Singapore, joins law firm Laycock & Ong. Marries Mrs Lee officially on Sept 30.
1954 - Forms People’s Action Party.
1955 - Elected legislative assemblyman for Tanjong Pagar on April 2
1959 - Sworn in as country’s prime minister at the age of 35.
1963 - Malaysia formed, comprising Malaya, Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak
1963 - Launches home ownership scheme which enables 91 per cent of Housing Board residents to own their homes by 1996.
1965 - Singapore separated from Malaysia on Aug 9. Mr Lee weeps on national TV
1967 - Full-time national service introduced
1990 - Steps down as prime minister after 31 years. Mr Goh Chok Tong takes over. Mr Lee appointed Senior Minister
2004 - Assumes post of Minister Mentor after his son Hsien Loong becomes PM.
2010 - Mrs Lee dies
2011 - Steps down from cabinet
March 23, 2015 - Dies aged 91 at 3.18 am
