Auditor wins $900 OWL coffee hamper
Auditor's girlfriend asked him to donate and the coffee-lover is rewarded for giving to seniors in need
Mr Kua Khim Siang has his girlfriend to thank for his a $900 OWL Coffee hamper. For a $2 donation, the 30-year-old auditor found himself the recipient of the grand prize at an OWL-TNP charity drive in celebration of OWL's 59th anniversary.
Seeing that there was a charity drive at Raffles Courtyard and remembering her boyfriend's love for coffee, Ms Carol Lim asked him to make a donation.
Ms Lim, 30, said: "I'm usually the one who asks him to donate."
Over five days, ending today, complimentary copies of The New Paper and boxes of OWL coffee are being given away to members of the public.
In return, they are encouraged to donate any amount they wished for a TNP-led initiative for the elderly called Project Helping Hands. And one grand winner stood to win the $900 OWL Coffee hamper.
Mr Kua was surprised when he found out that he was the one because he did not even know there was a grand prize to be won.
He said: "I just hope my small contribution can make their lives better.
"I believe that when you give, you will receive somehow."
Mr Kua and Ms Lim regularly perform acts of kindness.
Ms Lim said: "Whenever we see people in need, like uncles selling tissues, we will donate some money to them.
"Once, we saw an old handicapped couple in Tiong Bahru, so we decided to buy some groceries for them."
OWL brand manager Joie Wong said: "This is the fifth year of the charity drive and we hope that by doing this, we can contribute more to society and show our appreciation."
HELP THE ELDERLY
Proceeds of the drive will go to Project Helping Hands, a joint charity project by TNP, Lions Befrienders Service Association and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, which seeks to help the needy elderly.
Their flats are being installed with wireless sensor alert systems that track movements. If no motion is detected after a pre-set time, an SMS is sent to a caregiver or volunteer.
Visit Raffles Courtyard today for your last chance to get your goodie bags and make a small contribution to a worthy cause.
I just hope my small contribution can make their lives better. I believe that when you give, you will receive somehow.
