Some clubbers at Zouk upset over imposter wearing costume like well-known DJ's
If you were one of the many clubbers who raved about meeting DJ Marshmello at Zouk on Saturday night, we have bad news for you.
The man dressed in a marshmallow costume at the club was not the real deal.
He was merely someone wearing a costume similar to that worn by the electronic music producer and DJ.
And some unhappy clubbers are calling him an "impostor", including DJ Marshmello himself, who found out about his doppelganger from his fans on social media.
One of his fans is local DJ Jade Rasif, 22.
On Tuesday, she ranted on Facebook and Instagram about how Zouk had "cheated their audience", saying the "impostor" had appeared on stage with local EDM duo Bounce Squad, giving clubbers the impression that he was really DJ Marshmello. Bounce Squad were guest DJs at Zouk that night.
The real DJ Marshmello, who performs in costume and who remains anonymous, was in Singapore over the weekend to perform at Ultra Singapore 2016.
He took a screenshot of Rasif's Instagram post and tweeted yesterday: "Super wack that you guys hired an imposter to perform as marshmello @zouksingapore respect @djjaderasif"
Yesterday, Zouk told The New Paper: "We would like to take the opportunity to clarify that he was not hired by Zouk Singapore as a mascot or to DJ and we apologise for any confusion caused.
"We have always encouraged our guests to be creative and fun-loving, and it was never our intention to mislead guests at the club or be disrespectful."
Rasif later apologised for pinning the blame on Zouk and directed her complaint to Bounce Squad instead.
But the DJs, who go by their stage names Inquisitive and Yeolo, told TNP through their manager yesterday that the man was "not in any way associated with Bounce Squad".
In a statement on their Facebook page, they said that on Saturday afternoon, they bumped into the man at Marina Bay Sands while "catching Pokemons". They took photos with him and "invited him down to (their) show that night".
They said they did not know where he was from, but added that he could have come from the Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention event, "where people do frequently dress up as fictional characters/public figures". The event was held at MBS over the weekend.

They added: "(He) came to party with us and to have a good time, and we can confirm that he only came up to the DJ console to chill with us and not once did he ever touch any DJ equipment or microphone.
"We do understand that there have been posts, comments and statements pertaining to this matter but with that being said, we do hope that people just calm down and not aggravate a trivial misunderstanding."
YouTube entertainer and Power 98 radio DJ Dee Kosh, who was at Zouk on Saturday, told TNP that the man dressed as DJ Marshmello did nothing out of the ordinary.
He said: "He did stand behind the console, but he never touched the decks. Anyway, there's always a posse with the DJs behind the console so it's nothing new and not everyone who stands behind the deck spins."
He added that there wasn't much hype surrounding the man.
"I was seated at the table next to him and it wasn't like people rushed to take pictures with him," he said.
Bounce Squad's manager said: "At the end of the day, we never set out to deceive anyone and we sincerely apologise for the confusion amidst our set."
