Woman calls police, upset over lack of sprinkles on ice cream
Not enough sprinkles on your ice cream? We've all been there.
But here's one thing you should not do: Dial 999.
West Midlands Police in England released a recording of a woman who called the emergency line to help in a row over the distribution of sprinkles on an ice cream.
The caller contacted the police on Monday after arguing with the owner of an ice cream van.
During the minute-long call, she told the emergency operator: "It doesn't seem like much of an emergency but it is a little bit because I've ordered an ice cream and he has put bits on one side and none on the other.
"He's refusing to give me my money back and saying that I've got to take it like that."
Chief Superintendent Jim Andronov warned against misusing the 999 system, saying: "If someone is trying to get through to report a genuine life or death emergency, then a minute is a very long time to wait."
He added that about 50 per cent of calls made to the 999 operators are non-emergency calls.
Last year, a man called the police because a prostitute was not attractive enough, citing a breach in the Sale of Goods Act. And in another incident, a caller wanted to seek help after he forgot his Facebook password.
