Dramatic drug bust sees car crash in Boon Lay
Drug suspect crashes car into another with family of four during dramatic CNB drug bust
His attempt to shake the cops off in a high-speed chase led to a three-car accident at Boon Lay Way.
The 26-year-old man crashed his car into a Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) vehicle before it hit another car on Friday evening.
A family of four inside the other car sustained injuries and had to be taken to hospital for checks, reported Shin Min Daily News.
The mother, 40, who did not want to be named, was in the front passenger seat.
She told the Chinese daily that her husband, 44, was driving the car, and her 17-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son were in the back seat
She recounted: "Our car was hit from the back and the force sent it spinning three full rounds before it crashed into the barrier."
The barrier is in front of a 3m-deep canal along the walkway by Parc Oasis condominium.
"If not for the barrier, the consequences would have been dire," the mother added.
"Luckily, we all had our seat belts fastened or we would have also been flung out of the car."
The woman complained of chest pains and her husband's right shoulder was also in pain. Their children complained of headaches.
A resident, who did not want to be named, said he rushed down from his HDB flat across the road in Block 226, Jurong East Street 21, after his daughter had alerted him about the incident.
SCREECH
She told The New Paper on Sunday: "I was using my iPad when I heard the screech and then two loud thuds. I told my father when he came home."
The resident said: "The moment I went downstairs, the first people I saw were the family and the state of their car.
"The daughter was complaining that her head hurt and her father had his entire right arm bandaged and in a sling."
Other witnesses said the suspect got out of his car after it hit the road divider and tried to escape.
But four men got out from another car to give chase before managing to catch him.
Video clips on social media showed the suspect being handcuffed and taken away in an unmarked car.
A CNB spokesman said that "both the suspect and the family of four in that car were sent to the hospital for checks".
"The suspect was related to an earlier case on April 30 where about 312g of heroin and three Erimin-5 tablets were found in a car," added the spokesman.
The suspect is under CNB's custody and will be investigated for drug trafficking.
