Star Style: Dawn Yeoh's done with pink
Local actress Dawn Yeoh's new personal style does not include former favourite colour
Local actress Dawn Yeoh first appeared in these pages 13 years ago as a fresh-faced 17-year-old The New Paper New Face hopeful.
She was shy, determined, adorable, and in love with the colour pink.
Today, Yeoh - who is signed with Taiwanese talent agency Catwalk, also home to golden couple Fann Wong and Christopher Lee - is a staple on television.
She is on screen as one of veteran actress Xiang Yun's daughters, Zijun, on Channel 8's long-form drama Peace & Prosperity, which airs on weekdays at 7.30pm.
It also stars fellow New Face alumni Julie Tan and Jayley Woo.
Yeoh is focused on the Chinese and Taiwanese markets.
Now 30, she is as bubbly and sweet as she was during her New Face days. But she claims her love for pink has died.
"I'm trying to omit the colour from my life," she joked.
AWARENESS
Of her fashion sense, she said: "I didn't change much. I'm still sloppy as ever."
But she is more aware of what she wears now that she is a public figure.
"As much as I want to be comfortable, when I'm heading out, I dress up a little," she said.
One of her biggest fashion missteps was the black student-made Hello Kitty dress she wore for the Star Awards red carpet in 2006.
"Back then, it felt good. Now, I cringe when I see that photo."
Today, she is sure of her personal style.
"Whenever I have to dress up, I'll look at (Thai actress) Poyd Treechada and (Taiwanese actress) Shu Qi for their sweet and feminine look.
"For a casual day-to-day look, I'll check out (Italian blogger) Chiara Ferragni, (Australian model) Miranda Kerr and (US model) Kendall Jenner for my definition of urban chic."

SENTIMENTAL DAWN
This Bape jacket, which she says is at least 15 years old, is Yeoh's most sentimental outfit as it was a gift from her mother.
"Back then, to own a Bape jacket was a big thing. I made a random remark about wanting it and she surprised me with it."
She took it with her on one of her most memorable shoots in Brazil in 2006, for Channel 8 show The Peak.
The series also brought back a lot of memories for her, such as how she and co-star Qi Yuwu got into an accident on a bicycle.
CASUAL DAWN
Although Yeoh says she is weaning off pink, her off-duty outfit pick - bought in Bangkok - happens to be in that colour. And so is the Prada clutch.
"Comfort is a key consideration," she said.
"I won't wear anything too revealing. Or super short shorts. My parents will scream at me!"
SEXY DAWN
When asked to pick her sexiest outfit, Yeoh turned to an athletic-leisure choice - her Puma gym attire, which she wears at least once a week.
"Sportswear accentuates your figure. And when I work out, I feel stronger and that builds my confidence."
Yeoh will only train in a cropped top under one condition.
"The day I get my six-pack, I'll wear a sports bra and work out that way."
SHINY DAWN
For a special day out, Yeoh turns up the shine - this outfit from Topshop and shoes from Zara are her go-tos for special occasions.
"Shiny stuff reminds me of Christmas and they make me happy."
Here is a tip from Yeoh if you want to stand out in a crowd.
"With sequins, you can be outstanding, so it's good for appearances. It's usually the most eye-catching."
