Vorster suspended two race days

Apprentices Troy See, Shafrizal and Iskandar also punished for careless riding

Kranji stalwart Barend Vorster and leading apprentice Troy See have been suspended for two Singapore race days each, after they pleaded guilty to careless riding on Toosbies and Crazy Dreams respectively.

Vorster had, in Race 2 on Friday, permitted his mount to shift inwards at the 950m mark. He was insufficiently clear of Trapio, who had to be checked.

The incident escalated as Trapio, when checked, shifted inwards, resulting in Caribbean Lady also having to be checked.

When deciding on the penalty, the stewards took into account his record, guilty plea, the degree of interference and carelessness and submissions from Vorster that he has been engaged to ride on Friday and Sunday.

The stewards then handed down a two race-day suspension which was deferred and will begin on Sept 3 and until Sept 9.

As for See, it was established that near the 950m mark in Race 3 also on Friday, he had permitted his mount, Crazy Dreams, to shift inwards, when insufficiently clear of Drone, the mount of Glen Boss.

It resulted in Drone having to be checked.

See was suspended with effect from Saturday to this Sunday, which covers two Singapore race days.

At an inquiry, Shafrizal, the rider of Metagross, in the presence of his master, trainer Michael Clements, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that in Race 5 on Friday, he allowed his mount to shift outwards passing the 100m mark, when not clear of The One (Benny Woodworth).

As a result, Dontlookdownonme was severely checked.

Shafrizal was suspended for five Singapore race days from Saturday until Sept 14.

Also in the same race, Iskandar copped a two-day suspension for his ride on The Golden Goat.

He had, in the presence of his master, trainer Lee Freedman, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding.

Iskandar had, near the 950m mark, allowed The Golden Goat to shift inwards, when not clear of Lim's Force (See).

It resulted in See's mount being crowded for room and losing his position.

This also resulted in Muscular Dragon (apprentice CS Chin), who was following, having to be checked.

For that, Iskandar was suspended for two Singapore race days, from last Saturday until this Sunday.

He was also handed a further two-day suspension for his ride on Dreamweaver in Race 8.

He had, near the 1,000m mark, permitted his mount to shift inwards, when not clear of Sacred Magic (M Zaki), resulting in that horse having to be checked.

For this offence, he was suspended from Sept 3 to Sept 9.

His two suspensions will be served consecutively.
