Green Book wins Toronto film festival audience prize
Peter Farrelly's dramatic comedy buddy movie Green Book, starring Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen, won the Toronto International Film Festival audience prize on Sunday, making it a surprise Oscar contender.
The film follows a working-class, loud-mouthed Italian-American bouncer (Mortensen) who takes a job chauffeuring an African-American classical pianist (Ali) through the segregated US South in the 1960s, because it is too dangerous for him to travel alone.
"I'm still reeling from the response to the film (in Toronto) so this is incredible," Farrelly, who is best known for comedies Dumb And Dumber and There's Something About Mary, said.
"This win is beyond my wildest dreams."- AFP
