A special ride with Schooling
It was a special ride that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
Singapore's first Olympic gold medallist Joseph Schooling played chauffeur to three boys from the Make-A-Wish Foundation at Kallang Wave Mall yesterday afternoon.
Budding swimmers Joshua Ong, Boon Kye Feng and Joshua Koh, all nine, received a special treat when their idol Schooling took them on a special spin in a Porsche Cayenne outside the Kallang Wave Mall after an event by The Schooling Effect and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Joshua Ong, who is a Primary 3 pupil from Schooling's alma mater - Anglo-Chinese School (Junior) - presented the 21-year-old with a copy of the school's annual magazine.
NOT SCARED
"I didn't feel scared because he's a good driver. He even told us he drives a Mercedes in the United States," said Joshua Ong.
"I like Joseph (Schooling) because he won the first Olympic gold medal (for Singapore), and I want to become just like him."
Schooling and the three boys pledged their dreams at the mall's Christmas tree.
The pledge is created as part of the book Hello, My Name Is Joseph Schooling, to encourage and inspire people to dare to dream.
Members of the public can also hang their own pledges up for the coming festive season.
Liberty Insurance's vice-president for marketing and analytics Teo Ser Foong and Porsche's managing director Martin Limpert each presented Make-A-Wish Foundation CEO Judy Lim with cheques for $5,000 and $18,000 respectively.
