Unique mooncake flavours that will make you feel over the moon
This Mid-Autumn Festival, delight family and friends with these interesting varieties of mooncakes
The Mid-Autumn Festival returns with more new variants of mooncakes. Some people wait all year for this, and calories be damned, you will indulge. Here are some of the interesting mooncakes of 2018.
CRYSTAL JADE
Does it even matter how the mooncake tastes when the packaging is like this?
Crystal Jade's Mickey and Friends Musical Carousel Collection ($88 for box of eight) comes in an actual musical carousel mooncake box which is lit from within. Inside, you will get two flavours: Pandan Lotus with Gula Melaka and Chocolate Manuka Honey .
You can order it online (www.crystaljade.com) till Sept 18. It is also available at all outlets.
ANTOINETTE
If you are tired of the usual flavours, the Salted Yolk Hae Bee Hiam ($60 for four) from Antoinette is a good alternative. It is a sweet, spicy and savoury bite, with a pretty gift-worthy box. This is available at the two Antoinette outlets (Penhas Road and Mandarin Gallery).
FAIRMONT SINGAPORE
One of my favourites this year come from Fairmont Singapore. Its Baked Plum and Figs Mooncake ($68 for four) is not as sweet as the name suggests, but it is as lush and luxe as you would imagine it to be.

PUTIEN
For Teochew-style mooncakes, Putien is selling Madam Leng Mooncakes.
They come in two flavours - yam (from $48 for four) and purple sweet potato (from $52 for four). The fillings use taro from Thailand and Japan's first-grade purple sweet potato.
The mooncakes are available at all Putien outlets.
BAKERZIN
Durian is always a popular filling for snow skin mooncake.
The latest is Bakerzin's Splendour Collection ($98 for eight pieces), made from pure Mao Shan Wang durian. The emerald snow skin also makes this extremely photogenic.
These are available at all Bakerzin outlets.
MADAME FAN
Madame Fan (The NCO Club) debuts its mooncake collection with a range of snow skin mooncakes with flavours such as Matcha Paste, Creamy Durian Paste and Cempedak (from $71.90 for a box of eight).
The highlight is the Signature Champagne Chocolate, which is a chocolate shell filled with dark chocolate ganache and champagne snow skin.
But the best part is the gorgeous box. The crimson latticed box with an intricate lace pattern props up as a serving stand on its own - perfect for adding a bit of drama when serving the mooncakes.

ORCHARD HOTEL
This year, Hua Ting Restaurant (Orchard Hotel) is offering the new Mini Fruity Noon Tea. It features a green apple filling and a white chocolate core infused with Hua Ting's premium tea - a floral blend of orchard fruits.
If you prefer alcohol to tea, the White Lotus Paste with Champagne Ganache is recommended.
Or try the Blueberry with Vintage Hua Diao Wine, blueberries imbued with 30-year "Chen Nian Hua Tiao" (vintage rice wine). All these mooncakes are at $69 for eight.
These are available at Orchard Hotel Lobby Kiosk or call 6739-6577.
