'Age just a number which means nothing'
HK superstar Aaron Kwok, who will turn 50 next month, tells M how he maintains his youthful appearance
It is hard to believe that come Oct 26, Hong Kong superstar Aaron Kwok will hit the big 5-0.
With his perfectly chiselled looks and lean, age-defying muscled bod, the Heavenly King of Cantopop can easily pass off as a 30-year-old and upstage his younger showbiz counterparts.
How in the world does the veteran singer-actor maintain his ageless appearance?
Kwok told M in an e-mail interview that "the secret lies in one's mentality".
He explained: "It has nothing to do with your physical age. Age is just a number which really means nothing. If you stay positive, you will look happy and when you are happy, you feel young. And you will look young."
Till today, his electrifying live concerts are physically demanding affairs, with lots of acrobatic dance moves executed by the man himself.
Exercise, says Kwok, is a big part of his life and he recommends it to anyone who wants to be as fit as he is.
"Exercising helps you stay in good shape and raises your metabolism. A healthy diet is also key to agelessness," he said.
"Have discipline and eat healthily - you won't be far from looking youthful."
Often dubbed by the Chinese media as "Asia's answer to Michael Jackson", he will be bringing his latest Aaron Kwok De Showy Masquerade World Tour Live 2015 concert to Marina Bay Sands for two nights next month.
While no records will be broken this time round - Kwok and his concert production team broke the Guinness World Record for setting up and performing on the world's largest indoor revolving stage in 2009 - he promises a visual spectacle for all nonetheless.
"Come prepared to enjoy special 3D effects and laser lights," he said.
"To make our concert even more dynamic, we are arranging for some tailor-made dance boxes. So we are not just dancing on a flat platform but dancing and leaping to and from the boxes."
The audience will be handed 3D glasses for a segment where 3D effects are projected on stage.
In Kwok's words, this will allow them to fully take in the "powerful visual impact".
"I think my fans will have good fun wearing these 3D glasses while watching me and my dancers. It is going to be a spectacular sight," he said.
Kwok might have been effervescent on the topic of his gig, but he was tight-lipped about his personal life.
He declined to answer any of our questions about his relationships.
After his high-profile romance with Chinese actress Lynn Hung ended in 2013, Kwok was rumoured to have romanced Hong Kong TVB starlet Christine Kuo and effervescent Chinese model Anna Kay.
When asked if he ever felt like slowing things down on the career front, his answer was a firm no.
"I really enjoy what I am doing. In fact, I really love my singing and acting career," said Kwok.
"When it comes to acting, each role is different and that is where the fun lies.
"In the future, I believe I will challenge myself by taking on different roles as I definitely don't like repeating myself on the silver screen."
He added: "It gives me huge satisfaction when I perform in front of audiences. When I enjoy what I am doing, I actually feel very relaxed. So I don't think I will ever want to stop."
