Got7 leader JB recovers in time for concert here
K-pop boy band stage dynamic show here with full crew after leader recovers from spinal injury
If Got7's first concert in Singapore had taken place in April instead of yesterday, the K-pop boy band would have been one member short by no choice of their own.
Got7's charismatic leader, JB, 22, had injured his spinal disc, and could not join his bandmates at their sold-out concerts in Seoul's SK Olympic Handball Stadium on April 29 and 30.
Thankfully, at last night's dynamic and dazzling show at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, JB showed everyone that he had made a full recovery.
Back in tip-top condition, he was energetic from the get-go, when Got7 launched into their robust and upbeat tunes Put Your Hands Up, Turn Up The Music, and Girls Girls Girls.
JB engaged the crowd most during the groovy and cheeky number Magnetic, flashing his "eye smile" (Korean slang for how someone's eyes almost disappear from view when he smiles) to shrieks from the fans.
Got7, formed in 2014 by giant label JYP Entertainment, also comprises South Koreans Youngjae, Junior, and Yugyeom, Jackson from Hong Kong, American-Taiwanese Mark, as well as BamBam from Thailand, whose ages range from 18 to 22.
According to entertainment website Koreaboo, JB experienced back pain during a concert rehearsal in late April.
His decision to sit out the Seoul leg of Got7's concert tour was made after consulting doctors.
While neither JB nor the other members made any direct mention of his spinal injury on stage, it was clear that both his bandmates and fans were concerned about his health.
"How you're feeling, JB? Come on, tell us, one time, in English," said Jackson.
As the crowd started chanting "JB, JB, JB", the man himself appeared looking slightly shy and replied in halting English: "I am feeling good."
Fans told The New Paper that they were "worried" when they read about the news of JB's injury.
"It is definitely not nice to hear stuff like that, I feel that all of them (in Got7) have been working too hard," said May Rosnye, 16, a Secondary 4 student.
Her friend, Yoon Chua, also 16 and in Sec 4, added: "I feel that their management company should allow them to have more rest.
"At least JB could make it for the Singapore concert."
SOMERSAULTS
It was a spectacular show for the 4,500-strong audience last night, with the seven members pulling out all the stops.
Mark did somersaults and flaunted his athleticism, while Youngjae and Jackson playfully danced sexily with each other.
But the best and most comical part of the concert was their "girl group dance" segment.
They cross-dressed as members of rookie girl groups GFriend and Red Velvet, and pranced around to cutesy songs such as Me Gustas Tu by the former and Dumb Dumb by the latter.
