Stop teasing, is Fann Wong expecting?
Photo of Christopher Lee cradling wife Fann Wong's belly fuels rumours she might be pregnant
The photo shows Christopher Lee hugging his wife, Fann Wong, from behind, with both their hands resting on her tummy.
The caption teases: "Good afternoon! We will be shouldering a new responsibility!"
Huh? Are the celebrity pair expecting their second child?
That's what fans wanted to know after the photograph appeared on the couple's Facebook pages yesterday.
The teasing photograph and caption, which comes shortly after their son Zed turned one last month on National Day, has received over 78,000 likes and over 1,600 shares so far on Wong's Facebook account.
Congratulatory messages have also poured in from Facebook users.
Armed with the question, The New Paper went to the couple's artist agency, Catwalk Asia.
No, Wong, 44, isn't expecting, a representative told us.
"The photo is from a client's photoshoot, and it is the first step of a marketing plan rolled out by the client.
"Fann and Christopher are endorsing something for the client, and the endorsement will be announced shortly," she said.
Okay, so that was anti-climatic. But some fans remain hopeful. And with good reason, too.
After all, the couple had "announced" - deliberately or not - their first child pretty much the same way.
In January last year, a photo posted on celebrity hairstylist David Gan's Instagram account led to rumours that Wong was pregnant with her first child on her 43rd birthday.
In it, Wong, Lee, also 44, Gan and television producer Anita Hatta had their fingers pressed against their mouths, suggesting that they were keeping mum over a secret.
When asked if the couple had any happy news to announce, a spokesman for Catwalk Asia had then told TNP: "Not that we know of."
But a month later, lo and behold, the couple revealed that yes, they were indeed expecting a baby after five years of marriage.
Close friends of the couple told TNP yesterday that Wong has shared that she wants to have another baby, though they have not heard any news from her yet.
Gan, 53, who is always reliable with this kind of news, said: "When I met her last week for a photoshoot, she was down with a cold and I offered her some medicine. She asked me what ingredients were in the pills and said that she couldn't take certain medicine as she wanted to get pregnant."
He added: "She and Chris are quite superstitious, so they might only announce the pregnancy after the first three months."
SUPERSTITIOUS?
So okay, we get it: Some couples believe it is unlucky to announce a pregnancy before reaching the first trimester.
We then went to former actress Evelyn Tan. Her husband, Darren Lim, had hosted a mini gathering on board his yacht last week, after filming for the new Channel 8 drama Crescendo wrapped. The cast members of the series, including Lee, who was accompanied by Wong, Lim and Jacelyn Tay, were there.
Tan, 41, told TNP: "Fann looked perfect and she was very much in shape.
"She did not have any morning sickness. During the gathering, there was no sign of her being pregnant at all."
Celebrity stylist Martin Wong, who dressed Wong during her pregnancy last year, too, said that he wasn't clued in on any developments either.
The 32-year-old, who styled local actress Joanne Peh during her pregnancy this year, said: "I just met her last week for a photoshoot and she still looks slim. If she is really expecting, then I think I am fated to style one pregnant celebrity a year."
He added: "Fann has been telling us that she wants to have another baby and that she loves being a mother. When the time is right, she will automatically tell us."
Good afternoon! We will be shouldering a new responsibility!
